Burnwood Secondary is noted for highly developed technology, and a staff that is well trained in modern elearning systems.
We have many classrooms equipped with data projectors. Teachers use computers and tablets to enhance their lessons.
We make every effort to stay in line with modern trends in computer based management. All staff are well trained in computer systems.
In addition to normal paper circulars, we communicate to parents via sms. These include learner attendance, latecoming, and school fees balance as well.
We are constantly upgrading the school's facilities. We recently built a very upmarket kitchen for Consumer Studies.
About our School
We take pride in our craft!
We have learners from Grade 7 to Grade 12, covering a wide variety of subjects. Academics is our first priority, and we have a very determined and dedicated team of professionals to ensure success.Truthfulness and Wisdom to Seek
Our well recognised Monogram, is worn on shirts and blazers. The monogram serves to unite the Burnwood family, and extended family, across the years and across the world!
We are very grateful to the many ex-students that assist us, so we can continue to provide educational services to all our children!
Effective and standardized functioning of the school is managed by various policies. These are in line with the Department of Education.
Admissions is done with the fact that all children have a right to education. There are no admissions tests. We believe in a strong sense of discipline, and we are very particular about neat and tidy dressing. Respect for all is a value we embrace dearly, and encourage such practice.
We have a very active and amazing School Governing Body. The SGB plays an active role in the school, and we are very proud of our SGB.
We are a team of dedicated people.
Jamaat Khana ― In School
There is Jamaat Khana on the school property. In view of safety, we prefer our Muslim learners not leaving school on Fridays to attend a Jamaat Khana elsewhere.
Careers ― Guidance
We arrange various tertiary institutions to visit school, and address Matrics.
Security ― 24 Hours
We have 24 hour security in addition to CCTV and Armed Response. The school is also fully fenced.
Maintenance ― Various
Every effort is made to ensure that the school is well maintained. Repairs are undertaken as quickly as possible.
Tuckshop ― Nazeemas Fast Foods
We have a very delightful tuck-shop, providing tasty and affordable food. Fruits are sold in the mornings. All food is halaal.
Representative Council of Learners
The RCL is elected via a rigourous election process for Learners, from Grades 8 to 12. From the elected members, an executive is elected. Two members also serve in the School Governing Body. Each class has an RCL Rep, and is thus represented in the SGB.
Prefects are elected by Staff through an extensive process, and involves only Grade 11 Learners. There are eight Management Prefects which consists of two Head Prefects, two Senior Deputy Head Prefects, and four Deputy Head Prefects. The rest of the Prefect Body is divided into teams that specilaize in different sectors, such as Sport, Marketing, etc.
There are many other general leadership positions for Learners, such as Register Monitors, PA Technical Team, Sports Captain, etc.
